San Diego Regional Military Working Group

The San Diego Regional Military Working Group provides a collaborative forum for the various branches of the military and SANDAG to address areas of mutual interest, including growth management, habitat, transportation, regional growth, housing, water, energy, and other related topics.

The voting membership of the Military Working Group shall be composed of five representatives from the armed forces: Navy Region Southwest; Navy Facilities Engineering Command; Marine Corps Installation West; Marine Corps Recruitment Depot; and U.S. Coast Guard San Diego Sector. In addition, the membership will include one representative from the following jurisdictions: City of Coronado, City of Imperial Beach, City of Oceanside, City of National City, City of San Diego, County of San Diego, and the Port of San Diego.

Military Multimodal Access Strategy

In April 2017, SANDAG was awarded a Caltrans Planning Grant to develop the San Diego Regional Military Multimodal Access Strategy (Strategy) in collaboration with the San Diego Regional Military Working Group. The Strategy is a near term action identified in the Regional Plan to enhance access to the region’s diverse and dispersed military bases. The Strategy will assemble and prioritize a list of projects, operational improvements and programs that could be implemented to address traffic congestion at key military base and port access points, providing people with alternatives to driving alone.

A briefing book has been prepared with profiles of each military installation in the San Diego region. Working Group members are asked to review the briefing book and profiles to enhance our discussion at the October 15, 2018, meeting. You may direct edits/comments to project manager, by October 31, 2018,so that we can incorporate changes. The revised briefing book will serve as the basis of information for a stakeholder workshop to be held on December 3, 2018.
