Senior Database Administrator/Developer

Salary Range:
Annual Salary Range: $104,049 to $161,276

Role

The Senior Database Administrator/Developer will provide support for SANDAG’s hybrid cloud, analytical modeling database, and data warehouse environment that encompasses the agency’s socioeconomic, transportation, and land use data.

Overview of Data Science Department

The Data Science Department provides SANDAG member agencies, elected officials, other organizations, and the public with information and technical resources for regional planning, funding, and policymaking efforts. The department represents a broad range of expertise from land use and transportation modeling, programming, and website development, applied social research, public safety, demographics, and economics. The common theme is data. The information the department gathers, analyzes, produces, delivers, and maintains is essential to the success of SANDAG.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, optimize, and tune agency's hybrid cloud OLTP and OLAP database engines.

 

  • Manage user and group-level role-based access control and configure application security privileges and permissions.

 

  • Perform automated database backups, index tuning, and storage filegroup and partition management.•Perform high-availability disaster recovery planning and implementation.

 

  • Support and train database users, troubleshoot queries, connectivity issues, and system hardware.

 

  • Facilitate database design, planning, ETL, and data lifecycle and governance functions.

 

  • Develop and maintain data pipeline to ingest, transform, and optimize raw transportation and other model outputs effectively for reporting and visualization purposes.

 

  • Develop queries and procedures to support transportation model reporting.

 

  • Perform routine database maintenance to include resolving loading failures, checking for signs of corruption in the database, database backup, removing duplicate records, and checking for any abnormalities in the databases.

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science, or a related degree.  A combination of education and recent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

 

  • Minimum of five years of recent experience in a database administrator role.

 

  • Demonstrated experience with database scoping, configuration, and deployment experience using Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and newer.

 

  • Demonstrated experience with Azure SQL (Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service) experience desired, including performing cloud database migrations.

 

  • Demonstrated experience with data engineering skills, including knowledge of Azure Data Lake Storage, Amazon S3, or similar.

 

  • Demonstrated experience with database normalization and dimensional data modeling (OLTP and OLAP).

 

  • Knowledge of Apache Spark, Databricks, and Synapse.

 

  • Strong knowledge of SQL query and stored procedure development.

SANDAG employees are expected to work in-person in our San Diego office; there are telework options available, as well as a 9/80 work schedule (every other Monday off).
