SANDAG to Host a Series of Webinars on the 5 Big Moves

Public and Private Industry Experts Share Insights on Strategies to Develop a Bold New Transportation Vision

June 24, 2019-- SANDAG will host a series of five, 45-minute webinars to discuss the 5 Big Moves. These strategies set the framework for a bold new transportation vision for San Diego Forward: The 2021 Regional Plan, which will enhance connectivity, increase safety and sustainability, and improve quality of life.

The 2021 Regional Plan will synchronize the 5 Big Moves – Complete Corridors, Transit Leap, Mobility Hubs, Flexible Fleets, and Next OS – to deliver an integrated, world class transportation system.

The first webinar will focus on Complete Corridors and will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 12 p.m. PDT.

The Complete Corridors webinar will  delve into the features and anticipated benefits of the Complete Corridors network and will explore solutions to provide more travel choices and manage roadways in real-time to support the state’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and highway congestion.

Industry expert guest speakers will discuss how private and public sectors are embracing innovations across the world to improve the movement of people and goods.

Complete Corridors guest speakers include:
• Ben Sumers, Engagement Manager, McKinsey & Company
• Jonathon Hart, Principal and Senior Project Manager, CDM Smith

Sumers recently led efforts on the international e-hailing market, electric vehicle infrastructure, the opportunity for connected vehicles, and the impact of autonomous vehicles on major capital projects.

With more than 20 years of experience, Hart serves as the project manager for Traffic Engineering Advisory Services to the Illinois Tollway, where he implements traditional infrastructure and innovative technological solutions to address the mobility and congestion issues facing that region.

Upcoming 5 Big Moves Webinars:

• Transit Leap Webinar: Wednesday, July 10, 2019 @ 12 p.m. PDT
Join us to unpack the Transit Leap - a complete network of high-speed and high-capacity transit services that connect where people live (population centers) with destinations, like employment centers, universities, business districts, and regional attractions.

• Mobility Hubs Webinar: Wednesday, July 24, 2019 @ 12 p.m. PDT
Join us to discover how Mobility Hubs enhance the movement of people and goods when different modes of travel – walking, biking, transit, and shared mobility – and supporting amenities converge in the heart of communities.

• Flexible Fleets Webinar: Wednesday, August 7, 2019 @ 12 p.m. PDT
Explore how Flexible Fleets can build upon the popularity and success of shared, on-demand services like rideshare, ridehailing, microtransit, bikeshare, scooters, and delivery vehicles. These fleets provide personalized and convenient travel options through shared vehicles available 24/7 for different types of trips, which can reduce the need to own a car.

• Next OS Webinar: Wednesday, August 21, 2019 @ 12 p.m. PDT
Join us to learn about the Next Operating System (OS), a digital platform that functions as the brain of the entire transportation system to connect smart infrastructure and different modes of transportation – passenger vehicles, buses, ride-sharing, delivery trucks, autonomous vehicles, bikes and scooters, and more. The Next OS will turn data into real-time actionable information for transportation operators and travelers.
