Ocean Beach Bike Path Reopens to Public
Four-week closure related to Mid-Coast Trolley construction concludes
March 3, 2020-- This morning, the Ocean Beach Bike Path reopened following a temporary full closure of the path between Pacific Highway and Morena Boulevard.
The bike path closure began on Monday, February 3 and was necessary to make improvements to the path following impacts caused by Mid-Coast Trolley construction at the San Diego River. Improvements included repaving the bike path and installing a handrail.
Work on the bike path was initially scheduled to conclude by Friday, February 28 but was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances including inclement weather.
The Mid-Coast Trolley project will extend UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley service from Downtown San Diego to the University community, serving major activity centers such as Mission Bay, the VA Medical Center, UC San Diego, and University Towne Centre. Nine new stations will be constructed. Major construction work began in 2016, with service anticipated to begin in late 2021.
