San Diego Regional Proving Ground for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) established the San Diego Regional Proving Ground (SDRPG) to bring autonomous vehicles (AV) to public streets safely and equitably. We are one of 10 proving grounds in the country designated with the goal of:

  • Providing a platform for ecosystem partners
  • Engaging and educating the public
  • Accelerating benefits for the region and attracting local investment

The vision for this effort is to provide a real world proving ground environment for validating innovative technologies that advance mobility, safety, sustainability, and economic prosperity for the San Diego region. Our focus areas for the proving ground include:

  • Transit and Mobility
  • Cybersecurity and Data
  • Smart Streets and Smart Fleets
  • Freight and International Border
  • Wireless charging and transponderless tolling
  • Public outreach and education
