Project Overview
The new Rapid 625 route will connect South County to the College neighborhood of San Diego, starting in Chula Vista, passing through National City, Southeastern San Diego, and City Heights.
Schedule
During the 2023 Conceptual Planning Study for Next Gen Rapid Routes,we collected initial public feedback on which destinations are most important to them in the project area. Since early 2025, SANDAG began further studying potential route alignments, station locations, and other key project details. The project team will continue to gather input from people who travel between these areas and local cities touched by the route to help refine the route alignment and determine station locations. This work will continue through 2027 and then move into environmental clearance and further project design phases.
Next steps include final design and construction, contingent on available funding.
Budget
In October 2023, the SANDAG Board of Directors approved $26.6 million for the planning and design of six new Rapid routes. Rapid 625 currently has $10 million allocated for this effort to move forward the preferred alternative through environmental and extensive design phases.
