TransNet 35th Anniversary

This year SANDAG celebrates the 35th anniversary of TransNet and the extraordinary number of transportation improvement and environmental conservation projects the program has supported.

This half-cent sales tax administered by SANDAG makes an impact on the everyday lives of residents and visitors. It’s one of the largest transportation improvement programs in California and a driving force for transit, highway, freight, bikeway and walkway projects, local street and road improvements, environmental conservation, and transportation services for seniors and people with disabilities in the San Diego region.

The initial 20-year TransNet program generated approximately $3.8 billion between 1988 and 2008. The TransNet extension has generated $4.4 billion to date and has been vital in helping us secure additional federal, state, and local funds. Working with our partners at Caltrans, MTS, and NCTD, SANDAG has delivered more than 700 projects that connect the San Diego region…and we’re not done yet!

From safe streets to fresh landscapes, we’re using TransNet to transform our region one improvement at a time. Check out the interactive PDF below to view projects in your community.
