The Biden-Harris Administration announced historic new funding on Wednesday to improve roads and combat traffic fatalities across the country. Locally, SANDAG received $2.5 million from the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program to develop a regional comprehensive safety action plan in partnership with the City of Vista and La Jolla Band of Luiseno Indians. This funding will advance the mission of the SANDAG Board’s Vision Zero resolution and create safe, healthy, and equitable mobility options for everyone.

The San Diego region also received additional funding earlier this week from the State of California. Governor Gavin Newsom announced $2.5 billion in awards for public transportation projects that will provide alternatives to driving and enhance mobility options. Another $4.2 million was awarded to SANDAG which will fund the University Bikeway project. The University Bikeway will provide a vital connection for residents to walk and bike between the City Heights, Eastern San Diego, and La Mesa communities. The project features separated bikeways, buffered bike lanes, high-visibility treatments, and protected intersections designed to make the streets safer and more accessible.
