SANDAG Awards $12.3M to Local Jurisdictions for Housing Projects
On October 13, the SANDAG Board of Directors voted to award approximately $12.3 million to local jurisdictions across the region for capital and planning projects that contribute to both housing and climate goals. The funding is funneled through the SANDAG's Housing Acceleration Grant Program, funded by the state's Regional Early Action Planning (REAP) program.
SANDAG's Housing Acceleration Program (HAP) aims to help local jurisdictions produce more housing and better integrate it into their communities.
In March 2022 under the first cycle of HAP grants (HAP Cycle 1), the Board approved $1.9 million for seven planning projects. One of the projects has been completed and the remainder will be completed by April 2024.
HAP Cycle 2 will fund 15 projects starting this fall, all of which are required to be completed by December 31, 2025.
The awarded jurisdictions are:
- County of San Diego
- City of San Diego
- Del Mar
- Encinitas
- Imperial Beach
- Lemon Grove
- National City
- San Marcos
- Santee
With the support of the state’s REAP Program, SANDAG began developing the HAP to support the implementation of the 6th Cycle Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) and 2021 Regional Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (SCS). SANDAG is committed to leading the region in prioritizing housing acceleration and promoting equity and sustainability.
