SANDAG and the Port of San Diego were awarded a California Energy Commission Grant in 2021 to develop a regional Blueprint for medium-duty and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles, such as electric trucks and buses, to guide the region as goods movement and transit fleets transition to zero-emission technology. Project outcomes include a Needs Assessment report, MD/HD Zero-Emission Vehicle Siting Criteria, MD/HD Zero-Emission Vehicle Implementation Strategies, and a final comprehensive MD/HD Zero-Emission Vehicle Blueprint.
SANDAG is also partnering with the Environmental Health Coalition on this project to engage community members and support achieving environmental justice goals through our work related to MD/HD zero emission vehicles. The project kicked off in January 2022 and is expected to be complete in 2024.
