Transit Fare Discount Program Study
As part of our 2025 Regional Plan, we’re studying different types of free or discounted transit fare programs to offer in the future.* We want to know how these programs could encourage people to use transit more, and how we can make it easier for people in need to get around.
Offering more affordable and higher quality transit helps many people, including low-income communities, people who can’t drive, and those without access to a car. By offering free transit through our Youth Opportunity Pass pilot program, we’ve made it easier for kids to get to school, after-school activities, and more.
Our goal is to get even more people to their destinations—whether it’s work, the grocery store, doctor's appointments, or anything else. Motivating people to take transit instead of driving will also reduce our region’s greenhouse gas emissions, help our region fight climate change, and give us cleaner air to breathe.
We've been collecting feedback from across the region on the public's priorities for improving transit, while analyzing data to predict which types of programs would encourage the most people to use transit more often.

*Some programs may not become a reality until 2030 or beyond, and only if we get funding for them.
